November 01, 2007Microsoft Corp.’s Zune® team announced that a Zune music player produced in collaboration with Latin Grammy-nominated artists Wisin y Yandel, Machete Music and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will go on sale exclusively at Wal-Mart retailers Oct. 29 for $199 (ERP). The black, limited-edition Zune will come pre-loaded with the new Wisin y Yandel album, “Wisin vs. Yandel: Los Extraterrestres,” before it is available in stores, and will also feature an exclusive track, music videos, photos and concert footage.

Apple’s CEO posted another of his open letters to the world Wednesday on Apple’s Hot News section of its Web site, confirming reports that a software development kit (SDK) for the iPhone will be released to developers next year. It’s coming in Februrary, rather than January as reported, but application developers and iPhone owners will probably be able to wait the extra month.

“We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users,” Jobs wrote. “It will take until February to release an SDK because we’re trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once–provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc.”

It always made sense for Apple to go down this road, since it was never going to win a hacking war and users clearly want third-party applications on their iPhones and iPod Touches, which will also be opened up by the SDK, Jobs confirmed. I actually thought it would take a little longer for Apple to open its precious iPhone up to developers, but the company probably has become more satisfied in recent months with the stability of the OS X operating system. Apple has always said that the iPhone runs Mac OS X at its core, but in practical terms it’s really a new operating system that Apple has put together for the iPhone with common DNA from Mac OS.

Jobs implied that the first iPhone SDK would be a step past what Nokia is doing with its developers. Nokia has a huge developer community that creates applications for both Java and Symbian-based phones, and Jobs said those applications are required to have a digital signature that verifies the application has passed certain tests, and that makes sense given the growing concerns about smartphone security.

“While this makes such a phone less than ‘totally open,’ we believe it is a step in the right direction,” he wrote, hinting that Apple would somehow make it possible for almost any developer to add trusted applications to the iPhone using the SDK.

We’ll have to see how Apple decides to strike a balance between openness and security, but it’s good to see the company acknowledge that there are more options for keeping the iPhone secure than just limiting developers to Web applications.

Y para el intérprete de éxitos como “Caile”, “Flow natural”, “Mía” y “Tu cintura” la música no lo es todo. Este año se ha involucrado en dos causas sociales en su país: la Alianza para una Puerto Rico sin Drogas y una campaña contra la violencia doméstica.

La primera, cuyo lema es “para alcanzar tus metas con las drogas no te metas”, incluye anuncios de prensa, televisión y radio así como charlas en escuelas en las que ya ha participado y que lo han dejado conmovido y emocionado.

“De verdad que me impresiona mucho (corroborar) que uno sea un espejo para estos jóvenes y esto hace que uno crezca como ser humano”, manifestó. “Somos humanos y podemos caer, pero esto ayuda a que uno se mantenga alejado de las tentaciones”.

Relató que en las charlas no sólo le lleva a los jóvenes un mensaje de alegría, sino que se trata de debates participativos, “como si fuera la ONU”, en los que alerta a sus oyentes sobre los peligros de las drogas.

Para la segunda campaña, que dijo aún no tiene fecha de lanzamiento, está trabajando en una composición musical con un artista que por ahora no puede revelar pero que dijo es “grande, tenemos que hacer las cosas grandes”.

Simpson, 60, will have his first scheduled court appearance Thursday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said after the former football star’s arrest on robbery, assault, burglary and conspiracy charges.

No explanation accompanied the decision, which was announced in a police statement Sunday night.

Simpson was booked Sunday evening on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count each of armed burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Capt. James Dillon told reporters.

A co-defendant, Walter Alexander, faces similar charges in an investigation Dillon said was “still dynamic and still ongoing.”

Simpson was being held in isolation at the Clark County jail because of his status as a high-profile inmate, Dillon said. Simpson would be treated “like anyone else” in the lockup, he said.

Simpson is accused of taking sports memorabilia from two men in a Las Vegas hotel room Thursday. One of the men, Bruce Fromong, described the incident as “a home invasion-type robbery” involving Simpson and several companions, two of whom pointed guns at people in the room.

The other alleged victim, Alfred Beardsley, has been quoted by celebrity Web site TMZ.com as saying that Simpson later apologized to him and told him he regretted the incident.

Simpson has said that he entered the room with a group of friends, one of whom was posing as a potential buyer, after being tipped off that some of his personal items were for sale there. He said his friends helped him carry the items from the room, but said no guns were involved, and that the incident was not a robbery.

But Las Vegas police Lt. Clint Nichols said interviews and searches — including the seizure of two guns during the investigation — undercut Simpson’s story.

“We don’t believe anybody was roughed up, but there were firearms involved in the commission of the robbery,” Nichols said.

Police said they believe Simpson was the ringleader in the incident.

The weapons turned up after Alexander’s arrest Saturday on charges of robbery, conspiracy, assault and burglary. The 46-year-old Mesa, Arizona, man gave police information that led to three search warrants, Dillon said.

“Included in the seizure of that evidence was two firearms, which we believed to be the two firearms which were used in the armed robbery, in addition to property that was reported stolen, along with clothing that was worn by some of the robbery suspects,” he said.

Alexander was released on his own recognizance and returned to Mesa either Saturday night or early Sunday morning, Dillon said.

Simpson was arrested Sunday in his room at the Palms Hotel, where he was staying to attend a friend’s wedding. The Heisman Trophy winner and former Buffalo Bills star has maintained his innocence and called the incident a misunderstanding.

“The truth will come out,” he told CNN prior to his arrest.

But the charges mean he faces the prospect of another courtroom drama, more than a dozen years after the 1994 stabbing deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman.

Simpson was acquitted of murder in 1995, after a trial that riveted much of the United States. But in 1997, a jury found him liable for their deaths in a civil case brought by the family of Goldman, who died after going to Nicole Simpson’s Los Angeles home to return a pair of glasses.

Simpson was ordered to pay the Brown and Goldman families a total of $33.5 million for the deaths. Goldman’s sister, Kim Goldman, said she was not surprised by the robbery allegations because Simpson “thinks he can do no wrong.”

“He’s capable of stabbing people to death, so I think robbery is nothing surprising,” she said.

“Normal, logical, civil-minded, law-abiding people don’t storm a room with guns demanding stuff back,” she added.

Fromong had testified on Simpson’s behalf in the civil case, telling the court that prices for Simpson memorabilia had dropped substantially since the 1995 verdict. His testimony was part of the defense’s contention that Simpson could not afford to pay the Goldmans.

Simpson recently wrote a book he was going to call “If I Did It” and had planned to publish it himself, but a public outcry led to the cancellation of his book deal. A bankruptcy judge subsequently awarded the Goldmans the rights to the book in light of their inability to collect the wrongful death award.

The Goldmans retitled the book “If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer,” and it has just hit bookstores.

In addition, Nichols said, whether the items taken in Thursday’s incident belonged to Simpson “is still in debate.”

Nichols also said that some of the property taken had Simpson’s signature. But “there was some other property taken as well,” he said. “I believe there were some Joe Montana cleats and some signed baseballs and other stuff.”

Thompson eschewed the podium for this indoor event, much as he did at Thursday night’s energetic outdoor rally in Council Bluffs, where he captured the crowd with down home anecdotes about TV life and growing up in Tennessee, as well as highlights from his stump speech.

But Thomspson didn’t bring that same energy to his performance Friday. Instead, the lack of notes meant lots of rambling and little applause from the standing room-only crowd of about 200. Fred packed 10 minutes of good material into his 20 minute speech, which was somber and had the attentive audience mostly sitting on its hands. He’s not delivering his applause lines, what few there were in the speech. It wasn’t a bad performance, just lackluster yet again; he talks about being a conservative but doesn’t give the conservatives in the audience any passion, fire or punch to get them rocking in the aisles.It didn’t get much better when he opened the floor for questions. On health care, Thompson supports a market-based solution and more individual choice to lower costs – but apart from a moment at the top when he praised the U.S. health care system as the best in the world, he didn’t get any applause.

He also had to answer a question on what society should do about “deviants and homosexuals” – turning the answer into the difference between society and what government’s role should be in general (he said government should treat everyone equally … not sure if that means society should do the opposite by implication). Seemingly confused by wonkish, somewhat lengthy answers and a lack of red meat, the audience provided some of its own – asking Thompson about illegal immigration.

His law and order response (sorry) called for enforcing existing laws, and won over the crowd — though he also said he’s not suggesting we should prosecute illegal immigrants because it would fill up U.S. courtrooms (he’d rather just deport them when they are found).

On energy, he went through a whole answer on reducing our dependence on foreign oil without once mentioning ethanol, Iowa’s pet issue. And on whether he supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in light of an Iowa judge’s recent ruling allowing it in the state, Fred tap danced his way around the issue, suggesting instead a two-part constitutional solution involving one amenment ensuring that no state would be forced to recognize a law from another state and another preventing any gay marriage ruling in any particular state from becoming law without a vote of the state legislature.

Possibly his best moment came as he was addressing the issue of Iran – when his 3-year-old daughter Hayden unexpectedly interrupted by coming on stage and clinging to her 6’5″ father’s leg. Thompson said, “Hi sweetheart! Bless your heart, I’ll be done in a minute. You’re a pretty good Republican, you wanna show them your elephant?” Finally getting the young girl back to her mother backstage, Thompson continued that things are going well for the U.S. in Iraq, and that the military is currently doing things right “from the bottom up” all across the country, and not just in Anbar. That, according to Thompson, has Al Qaeda in Iraq “panicking.”

Any doubts the audience may have had about Thompson’s performance wasn’t reflected in the response after he wrapped up. The crowd rushed Thompson (and to Jeri, dressed conservatively in a dark suit), and the senator, sometimes lazily, shook hands for 20 minutes until the room had all but cleared.

On the way to the next event in Mason City, Thompson stopped off for an “off the record” at Dan’s Drive-In in LeMars, Iowa – the self-proclaimed ice cream capital of the world. But while he shook hands and visited with some of the diners, Fred didn’t indulge in a “Dan’s Dog” or even any ice cream, preferring to eat some Hormel canned chili on his bus beforehand – which his staff refused to let any cameras shoot. Fred declared himself a “chili man,” calling the meal the “brunch of champions.” The newly health-conscious candidate said, “(When) my wife is off the bus, you can have things like canned chili,” he said.

Como un presagio de las tragedias que han sacudido en estos días al país, pues también se suscitó otro incidente que involucra a un miembro de la policía con la muerte de un ciudadano en Cabo Rojo, René Pérez inició un desahogo lírico en el que vacía la rabia que se anida en su interior desde que ocurrieron los hechos, el pasado mes de abril.

Según compartió con PRIMERA HORA, su “pana”, Christopher Rojas Miranda, con el que se crió “desde chiquito” en la calle 13 de la urbanización El Conquistador en Trujillo Alto, murió “a cantazo limpio”.

Según datos publicados en la prensa, el suceso ocurrió el 10 de abril frente a la urbanización Covadonga en Toa Baja, luego que un agente detuviera a Rojas Miranda por viajar a exceso de velocidad.

El informe de la Policía indica que el hombre lucía algo desorientado cuando lo detuvieron. Incluso, supuestamente decía que alguien lo estaba persiguiendo para matarlo, pero el policía no vio a nadie siguiéndolo.

Según las autoridades, en ese momento el hombre se alteró y fue puesto bajo arresto tras un forcejeo en el que resultó golpeado. Posteriormente, fue ingresado en una celda, en la que murió horas más tarde.

Residente explicó que hace unas semanas la mamá de su amigo le informó que los resultados de la autopsia revelaron que, en efecto, Rojas Miranda murió a consecuencia de los golpes. Fue entonces que decidió escribir la canción.

“Fue un crimen lo que cometieron esos cabro&@#$. Igual que lo que acaban de hacer con Cáceres, lo que hicieron en (Cerro) Maravilla y lo que hicieron con Filiberto Ojeda (Ríos). Por eso, es que voy a desahogar mi molestia y no me importa ninguna consecuencia. A mí me lo van a tener que mam$#. Y no me importa lo que diga la disquera, ni lo que diga nadie…”, dijo serio, en un tono alto y con el ceño fruncido, en señal de coraje.

Y es que en lugar de lágrimas, René derramó frustración a través de un mensaje directo al sistema de justicia criminal del país en donde, dice, hay muchos “cabro&@#” que “no merecen llamarse policías”.

“No sé ni cómo explicar lo que sentí cuando vi el vídeo de (Miguel) Cáceres. En ese momento estaba hablando con Denise (Quiñones) y ella hasta empezó a llorar cuando vio el asesinato y las cosas sucias que le hicieron esos criminales que, por cierto, no entiendo por qué no están presos”, expresó sobre el vídeo que presenta de una forma cruda el momento en que Miguel Cáceres Cruz fue abatido a golpes y tiros por la Policía.

Aseguró que no está buscando ventas “ni chavos” con el tema, más bien quiere que todos lo escuchen, especialmente “en el Gobierno”.

“Éste es un tema underground, como el de ‘Querido FBI’. Es una denuncia al sistema. Es la forma en que quiero expresar mi coraje”.

The purple carpet rocked with the catchy sounds of West Coast rapper Down aka Kilo, who performed his hit “Lean Like a Cholo”, and for the first time, and as a special performance for PJ, he did it in Spanish! Fans couldn’t contain their excitement wearing “cholo” masks as three low riders bicycles and tricycles cruised around the stage.

Once the show began, it took on a whole new level when Hector “El Father”, joined by Toby Love and Victor Manuel, took the stage to perform the hit “Sola”. With a massive pyrotechnic display and female dancers resembling something like hourglass figurines, the four minute long performance ended with a bang as the three men performed bits a pieces of the songs showcasing their own genres until finally they got together to finish it reggaetón-style!

But the highlight of the night came with the surprise performance by Don Omar and Wisin y Yandel. Together for the first time in many years, and as if coming out of a sci-fi movie, the three reggaetón greats stepped out of the science lab where the “perfect combination had finally been accomplished”. The two-song medley began with the hit “MySpace”, but with a twist as it was called “Mi Pagina”. As if on cue, at the sound of the alarm, Don Omar and Wisin y Yandel ran over to the other side of the stage where they were greeted by a full salsa band. “Nadie Como Tu”, in its new reincarnation as a salsa song, put the icing on the cake of what is, undeniably, going to become a legendary performance.

That’s right: on Thursday evening, at the BankUnited Center, Mexican star Alejandro Fernández was honored for his 15 years in the business. But that was not all. El Potrillo, as he is also known, sang his new single ‘Te Voy a Perder,’ and was chosen by the public My Favorite Regional Mexican Artist in the category of that same name.

Meanwhile, Mexican singers Mario, Samo and Pablo, the Camila trio, practically stole the show when they sang the hits ‘Todo Cambió’ and ‘Coleccionista de Canciones.’ The guys, who are about to go on tour with Reik, showed their stage command and rapport with the audience.

Puerto Rican New Yorker Toby Love, the master of “crunkchata,” took to the stage with two of the biggest salsa and reggaetón artists: Víctor Manuelle and Héctor “El Father” respectively. They performed together the song ‘Sola.’

Whatever the genre or the occasion, Sony BMG rises to the top with its musical talent. And that again was the case at the 2007 Premios Juventud.
